Pacific Index to Agricultural Journals

The Pacific Index to Agricultural Journals (PIAJ) is included in the bibliographic database. PIAJ began as an attempt (in the late 1980s) to catalogue and index all articles published in agricultural journals in the Pacific Islands region. The database currently comprises 3,300+ records of articles indexed from 14 agricultural journals. What makes PIAJ important is that it is the only bibliographic database that contains everything published in these journals, from 1920 to the present day. The database thus represents over 90 years of agricultural research and development in the Pacific Islands, in one place. That's what makes it unique. And the fact that, eventually, each article will be linked to an electronic copy (where copyright permits).

The 14 agricultural journals are:

  • Agricultural Circular (Fiji), 1920-1925
  • Alafua Agricultural Bulletin (USP/SoA; superseded by JoSPA), 1976-1989
  • BSIP Agricultural Gazette, 1933-1936
  • Fiji Agricultural Journal, 1928-
  • Harvest (PNG), 1971-
  • Journal for Hawaiian and Pacific Agriculture (UH, superseded by PANR), 1988-2008
  • Journal of South Pacific Agriculture, JoSPA (USP/IRETA), 1992-
  • Pacific Agriculture and Natural Resources (UH; supersedes J Hawaiian Pacific Ag), 2009-
  • Revue d’Élevage et de Médecine Vétérinaire de Nouvelle-Calédonie (IEMVT/SPC), 1982-
  • Science in New Guinea (UPNG), 1972-
  • South Pacific Ag Teacher (USP/SoA), 1983-1991
Work is ongoing to fully index all issues of every journal. This is complicated by the fact that some journal issues are missing or hard to find, but we'll get there in the end.
